When I started this blog in 2006 I was the mother to a pair of cats and was a reasonably new knitter. Over time I’ve added two children, a spinning wheel, a canning pot, a sewing machine and a whole lot of cookbooks. I’ve also had a streak of self-sufficiency grow quite a bit stronger than I thought it would. As I’ve experimented with making bread and cheese, my own clothes, and a variety of other DIY projects, I’ve found that a lot of people think it’s out of their reach to learn some of these skills. I am no different than most people, with the exception that I happen to have extra-special Librarian skills I use to hunt down the easiest possible instructions for whatever it is I want to learn.
My purpose for this blog revival is two-fold: First, I want to write out and present easy instructions for things I’ve done and I feel others would be interested in. Second, I’ve been asked to spend the next two years creating and presenting original library programming for children on learning the “lost arts” of needlework, cooking, and making things with what you have on hand. I want to show those things here, too.
Thanks for stopping by, and do let me know if you try something I showed in the blog. I’d love to see/hear how it turned out!
